Hey Jak,
first let me say i'm impressed with your work as a tuner and respect your opinion very much.
(i've been reading TSN silently for years, cause with a bit searching i've found most answers)
Your posting has brought me to the question about proper AFR's at boost.
Recently i've read an article at innovatemotorsports about the topic of being "too rich" http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/rich.php
One quote from the text:
"Richening up the mixture results in a slower burn, moving the pressure peak later where there is more leverage, hence more torque. Also the pressure peak is lower at a later crank angle and the knock probability is reduced. The same effect can be achieved with an optimum power mixture and more ignition retard."
So this says, you make better power at 12.5:1 AFR and more ignition retard than running rich at say 11.0:1 AFR with a bit more ign. advance.
It's almost all about the right PPP (peak pressure point) if i understand the article correctly.
So, what do you think about this? I would love to hear your opinion on this.
Best regards from Germany
Stephan
