I run my 71 Sonett III with the original FoMoCo 1bbl carburetor which I rebuilt myself, but there was a time when I thought a Weber conversion was going to be necessary and the prospect of designing an installation that fit began to intrigued me. There were some serious issues to contend with (such as being able to close the hood when I was done) but with time on my hands, I jumped into the project.

It did not take me long in my studies to realize that using the original air cleaner was not going to be feasible without butchering it the point where it would never be considered as 'original' anyway, so I elected to do a 'dressed up' look with a custom air filter. My goal was to create a complete mock-up so that every imaginable aspect of the project could be pre-engineered and the actual conversion could be done with confidence and take no more than a day or two. The project spanned about 9 months before I was satisfied, so I was pleased that I took that approach! Anyway, the project is FINISHED, or so I think.

My latest Endeavour was to document the project the best I could for others to view and make suggestions, get ideas or just plain comment on. Unfortunately I do not have enough photo space on SAABNET to contain the dozens of pictures, and I also wanted to incorporate a video of the throttle linkage in action and a rather lengthy blog, so I started a new webpage similar to the one I created for the restoration of my 1971 III. I hope a few of you will take the time to review it and give me your thoughts. There is a link below... (And a link on my webpage to bring you back here).

I give high kudos to our frequent SAABNET contributor eric_in_vermont. Eric played a huge role with assistance in research, knowledge and parts!
