Interesting. I was just going by what it said in the Sonett service manual (which the prior owner included with the car) and spiv's description that said to push excess cable through the firewall to help with removing the gauge cluster.
"Be as direct as possible and avoid any sharp bends. There should be more than one hole in the firewall to choose from."
I wondered about that too, but I don't remember seeing any other obvious holes to route through when I looked. There is no diagram of this in the service manual so there was no way to know for sure. That current hole I mentioned (approximately 1.5" in diameter) seemed a fairly direct route without a sharp bend, but I will check for a more direct route. Can you or any other Sonett III owners here confirm the size of the hole in the firewall where your speedometer cable is routed?
