Thanks, Eric! I will definitely look into getting Jack's Saab Electrics book.
I appreciate the wiring details, but I am wondering now if FB and 54i were never actually connected to anything, as in my case, they both are connected to two pins on that strange empty cylindrical connector, which, based on your information does not make sense...as the tach was working (before the speedometer stopped working). I know driving the Sonett home, that the turn signal light and the high beam light both worked, but did not ever see the brake warning light come on.
I guess the next thing I need to do is trace the wiring and make sure the ends in the dash really connect to where they are supposed to connect.
