Thanks for the reply. I have a lawn-mower fuel filter betw the pump and carb which is clear. When the car is running, I can see about 3/8" worth of fuel in the filter. When its cranking (hot, not starting) there is no fuel visible in the filter. Thats tells me the problem probably isn't at the carb.
You have it right: cold engine + outside temp below ~80 degrees = car starts. Either hot engine or over 80-85 degrees outside = no start.
A few more clues: this problem has been getting progressively worse over the last 2-3 summers, the pump is ~20 years old, gas tank has good ventilation (no negative pressure antagonizing fuel pump's action), and all filters are new.
Given the age of the pump, sounds like replacing it couldn't hurt. Is your Airtex pump located in the engine bay?
