Seems like a few minutes with a multimeter would be informative. First check the voltage coming in with the meter grounded to a known good ground on the metal body. If the voltage is low you have a wiring problem somewhere that needs to be traced. If the voltage is similar to what you get at the battery, then check resistance from the bulb socket ground to the known good ground again. If it’s not close to zero, it’s a ground problem. Just connect a jumper from the bulb ground to the known good ground and see if the bulb brightens. Aren’t electrical problems fun? Good luck.
