Ignition Switch Sources Posted by BradW [Email] |
Like this subject has never come up before . . . ;-)
So my original switch has gone bad, the one out of our parts car is bad too and I'm left scrounging the internet.
About 10-15 years ago there was a complete replacement cobbled together that required you to replace the entire mount and lock mechanism, I haven't found these still available. However, the switch part (that goes bad) looks like it was used in a LOT of other cars, some of which have better parts support than our SAAB.
On the back of my original switch it has part number: SWF 800 086
On the back of my parts car switch it has part number: Bosch 0 342 312 002, which I found NOS on EBay from Germany. I've ordered one and will let you all know how it fits when it gets here. The back and front look identical to my SWF 800 086 but the photos weren't clear enough to confirm the shaft fitment that connects to the key switch, so to be continued.
Also online, the Bosch 0 342 323 005 looks like a fit but has different terminal labeling.
From clues on EBay and online it appears that our switch was also used on BMW 1500/1600/1800/2000, as well as some Fiats, Audis, and Porsches and maybe Opels? Any others?
If anyone has any insight, or a source for crossing an old SWF number please let me know. It is so simple to just swap these switches as opposed to replacing the entire locking mechanism. Hopefully one of these fitments will work!
