Heck, mine was rusted so bad I had to straighten it before I put the braces on. On the other hand it was rusted so bad that I could straighten it with a ruler, a very flat surface, a couple of jack stands and a jack. Brace the snot out of it after you make sure its straight.
I took a class at the local community college that let me use all of their tools, and I bent and formed my own sheet metal myself using them. I've spent less than $100 on metal, (and about $800 on tuition for the year that I've been working on it :) ) Not too bad, but the car does kinda look like frankenstein in places. That's ok, I'm going to drive it for another 30 years, so as long as it is strong. FYI, I used 16 gauge sheet metal. It is definetly thicker than stock, but it is a PITA to work with.
