If you push in on the pushbutton/lock cylinder and the door doesn't unlatch, the button may just have rotated out of position. The way it's supposed to work is that there's a tab on the inside that depresses the latch mechanism when you push in on the button.
The button is secured by a rather weak nut, so it's not uncommon for this to loosen. Then, when you twist the key, instead of just turning the cylinder inside the button, it twists the whole button, putting the tab out of position so it misses the latch.
You can usually fix it by using the key to rotate the button back into the correct position; the key slot should be straight up and down when the key is unlocked. Then you'll be able to open the (unlocked) door just by pushing the button, at least until it slips again.
To fix it permanently, you have to remove the trim panel and reach 'way up inside the door with a very thin wrench to tighten the retaining nut.
