...I was a big Pontiac guy, so I identify with the Muscle car era mentality. I am one of the lesser experienced Sonett guys here, but I had an interest in an auto interior shoppe for several years, so I think I can field the easier questions.
First of, these cars are fiberglass bodies/roll cages built on almost a unibody chasis. The frame can't be swapped out like a superbee or a dart. The floor and rockers are the frame. There is another competing site that discusses ripping a Sonett down to the floor/frame. I will spell the URL backwards to avoid this sites' policing function. m o c . b a a s v
Type in that URL backwards and lose the spaces. Then search it carefully, as there are engine mod instructions and detailed Sonett disassembly instructions.
I was able to get parts on E baay rather easily, and this BB has a parts section with helpful people.
Motors for the Sonett III frames of our years were all FoMoCo V4's.
FoMoCo's came in 1500 and 1700 cc sizes, depending on year. Depending on your year you have bumpers or no.
Market is not like a muscle car market. My 1979 ltd ed trans am in crappy condition is worth 12 grand. A cuda hemi is worth 6 figures. A mint Sonett III might fetch 9 grand.
Given the simplicity of these cars, they are a worthwhile endeavor. They currently do not see value like you are used to in say a 'Cuda of the same year, but I am sure the value will continue to increase.
