The bar in effective in adding some of the inside wheel's spring downforce to the outside wheel. The weight transfer in a turn pushes the body down (or presses the wheel up). A portion of that upward motion of the outside wheel is transmitted by torsion through the bar to the inside wheel and further reduces the tire to pavement pressure on that side. Remember that the weight shift is not only pressing down more on the outside tire, but it has been shifted from the inside and reduces pressure there. Now the anti-sway bar is also attempting to lift the inside tire off the pavement.
If the desire is for flatter cornering, then a thick anti-sway bar would be ideal, especially when the vehicle is heavy and tall like a Sonett.
Yes, that is sarcasm.
If the desire is for faster speeds in the corners then keeping the inside front wheel from lifting and spinning is desired. A locking differential is one way, an ABS operated wheel spin limiter is another. Good luck finding either for a V4 transmision. The removal of a front anti-sway bar will help keep the inside wheel in contact.
With RWD a front anti-sway bar aids in keeping the rear (drive) wheels in contact. With FWD, no front bar, or adding a rear bar, helps drive wheel contact.
A detrimental effect of reducing roll effect is that the end of the vehicle with the stiffer effective roll rate will lose grip first. A car with a front bar will tend towards understeer more than the same car without. A car with a rear bar will tend towards oversteer more than the same car without. The Sonnet has such a tendency towards understeer anyways due to its very uneven weight distribution that a front bar makes its already poor turn-in even worse. The addition of a rear bar will make the handling more neutral, even if a front bar is left installed.
The 95-96 models have better balance, not that the front is lighter, but because the back is that much heavier, and the taller center of gravity creates more roll so tha a front bar on these models is less of a detriment in turns and more of an assist in ride comfort than the same bar on a Sonett.
