It is done in a press, but you must support the aluminum immediately around the bearing on the back side of the cover. SAAB probably had a special tool. Sockets are commonly used for this kind of situation, but may not be long enough for that long bearing. Basically the tool would be a piece of pipe of the right diameter, the smallest possible amount larger than the bearing OD, and nicely flat on its end surface where the cover bears on it. . Likewise for installation you need similar support, and additionally a piece to press on the bearing OD or outer race, not the shaft or inner race, that will damage the bearing. If you are not confident, any machine shop should be happy to help for nominal money. In case of disaster I think I have a spare front cover. As far as I can remember it may be pressed in either direction. Installing the new bearing may be easier if you put it in the freezer for half an hour, and spray it and the bore with a little WD40.
The best solution IMHO is an electric fan controlled by a switch in the cooling system. Then after bearing removal you cut the snout off the cover and stick a freeze plug in the hole.
