Would anyone like to now how to change the fan bearing the easy way with the timing cover still on the engine? First take your new bearing and press on a new carrier (the part the fan bolts screw into) and set it to the correct depth for the fan and pulley thickness, use the old one for a measurement. Do not reuse the old carrier, it will come loose and the fan will go though the radiator! Next, clamp a pair of vise grips to the old fan bearing shaft, then clamp another pair of vise grips to the new bearing and carrier, clamp them on just the shaft not the carrier. Now get a 1/4" square shaft screwdriver or other metal stock to use as a shim guide to determine the space between the new carrier and the front of the timing cover. Still following me? Have all this at the engine ready for a quick installation. Now heat the timing cover with a propane torch around the old bearing while maintaining some pull with the vise grips on the old bearing, as it heats the aluminum will expand and release the bearing, pull it right out, immediately push in the new bearing using the vise grips, quickly set the depth with the screwdriver, you may need to keep some heat on the timing cover while you do this. It takes three hands if you are not experienced at it, but at that point your done, just let it cool for a while, apply a wet rag to speed the cooling so it won't melt the grease out of the bearing, and your done. Do not use a cutting torch or too large of a propane tip, do not heat it without constantly pulling on the old bearing, if you heat it too much you will melt the aluminum.
