Sudden Engine Stop
Posted by Cindy Johnson (more from Cindy Johnson) on Tue, 13 Jun 2000 17:13:52
Our 91 900S is going through a spate of 'sudden engine stop'. It goes approx. 25-30 miles, or in time measurement about 35 -45 minutes and suddenly stalls. There is still plenty of battery charge but the car will not start until it has had a chance to cool down. We had the ignition module installed (Bosch part ## 0.227.100.124). The car still 'failed' as mentioned above. All the people who have looked at the car say, as all past threads related to this problem have said, that it is an elusive solution to identify - apparently there are half a dozen or less possible defective parts. Today when IT happened I noticed there was oil on the lower part of something (crankcase?) and that oil had dripped onto ground below. Is this related? Is some sensor telling the engine to shut down when the oil/engine gets to a particular temp? Any suggestions on which part to try next? Thanks in advance! Cindy
