Clutch Prob 87 900S
Posted by Barry E. Muller (more from Barry E. Muller) on Fri, 9 Jul 1999 10:41:06
Hello,

Its been 6 trouble-free months of driving my '87 900S so I guess the old
girl was due for a little problem. About a week ago I started grinding
gears (oddly enough only when I shifted into 3rd - go figure). Things
went down hill since then: less and less throw 'till the clutch engages
and the the peddle doesn't feel as if it has as much pressure anymore.

I haven't 'noticed' any external leaks near the master or slave
cylinders and although I had to add brake fluid about 3 weeks ago (used
Dot 4) the level hasn't gone down since then. I figure I'm getting
leaks past the seals on either my master or slave cylinders.

So, is there an easy way to determine which part is defective or is it a
trial and error thing?

Also, how much does a slave cylinder cost and how much for a master cylinder?

Thanks,

Barry
