You don't mention whether the cars you have driven are automatic or 5spd, but
since your current 9k is a manual I'll assume the 900's are, as well.  As for
the difference between '91 and '92, there shouldn't be any significant
performance except the expected variance among individual cars.  Of course, if
the '92 is a manual and the '91 an automatic, there would be a difference but
I assume you have factored that.

On the '91, you might check filters...fuel mixture will be restricted if
they're clogged.  These are sometimes not well maintained.

The price on both seems reasonable.  I'm selling my '91 900 (not S) hatchback
with 115k in the same general condition for something in the $4k range, and
the cars are good for lots more miles, so the decision about which car to
purchase will rest more with your own perception of value.  The number of
miles you expect to drive each year, the care you give the car, and your
driving style will determine the real cost.  My 900 runs about $.10-11 per
mile for cost of ownership (vehicle cost, insurance, fuel, maintenance, etc.)
which is cheap by any standard.
