Subject: Re: 5th gear C 900
=================
Classic earlier-900 problem. There's a thrust bearing in the gearbox
that fails (often for apparently no reason -- I had one break when the
car was PARKED) and some stuff in there skews just enough to prevent
access to 5th. In some cases, reverse also disappears. Not much to do
except rebuild the gearbox... the later design thrust bearing is much
more durable. I had a 1982 900T fail like this, and a 1987 900T later
on, but on that car I didn't lose reverse.
