THE solution to 9000 brakes is this:

1. 4 new OEM-quality rotors (Brembo, Norrbit, Beck-Arnley) - no
modifications needed.
2. Front and rear AXXIS Metal Master brake pad sets.
3. Stainless-steel braided flexible brake lines, available from Paragon
Performance. They advertise in the NINES magazine, and a set costs about
$60.
4. Fresh new DOT4 brake fluid throughout the system (preferrably Castrol
LMA). Change fluid every 2 years, or better still - every year.

Also, make sure you get the rear parking brake adjustment set right. If
not, your rear brakes will either drag all the time, or not brake at all !

I set up my '86 9000T with all of the above, except I left the old rotors
(front about 2 years, rear 12 years), and the improvement was truly amazing.
I have as much fade-free stopping power now as I could ever want, and
that's saying a lot with my insane driving. The only thing that stops
better is a sport-bike. Oh, I hit 130mph on the local interstate loop on
Sunday, May 31 at 6:45 am ! With 205/60/15's, that speedo wasn't lying
either.

DIY cost for everything should be about $350, which is a bargain over the
chain-stores that give you crap rotors, crap pads, and crap rebuilt calipers
that you don't need. Your brakes are then crap for a year or two, before
it's time for another set.

That's kinda like muffler chain-store service. The previous owner dropped
$500 at Midas on a whole new exh. system, which I inherited. It's now 2
years old. The header pipe has never fit right, and the rear muffler has a
rust hole in it from the snow and salt-free highways of Oklahoma, Texas and
western Tennessee. What a deal !

Similar effect should be had on 900's as well, and the 9000-style brake
system on '88+ 900's is a thousand times better than the earlier setup with
twin-piston calipers, solid rotors and front parking brake (that last part
was nice, when it wasn't sticking !).

SAAB on !
