Hi,

> Draw your own conclusions about the veracity of their statements. Basically,
we'll take whatever color combo we can get from Carter, and I doubt I'll ever
walk into a Barrier showroom again. This is not the kind of Saab buying
experience my wife and I had hoped for.

So interesting! I so much agree with you, buy from the best company you can
that treats you like a human being. Yeap, settle for your second choice color
but if you can wait and the guys are good they will probably find you a car
you like. However, you are better off buying one you can see as opposed to
agreeing to one you have not seen.

Is an hour's drive too far? In my case my nearest dealer is about 25 miles
away but never took me seriously enough to offer me the 'correct' price for
what I wanted. In your money, they wanted 2500 dollars above the car's 'book'
price. I bought from 65 miles away and, following me, so did my colleague at
work. Both cars below the 'book price'. I am happy to do a 13-140 miles
return trip. Guess which dealer is better off.

regards
Charles

In Anchorage, similar things happen. Even Seattle, our nearest competitor, is
a 3 and a half hour jet ride away. Fortunately Washington offers Alaskans a
'no sales tax' incentive (we don't have sales tax here) Even with the cost of
shipping a car by barge to Anchorage, it can cave hundreds to thousands over
buying locally with the 'regional market adjustment' on the window listed as
about $3500 over sticker price. A friend I just helped with buying her first
Saab went the Seattle & barge route rather than deal with arrogant sales folks
here. You gotta want to be screwed to buy here. Yes, dealers can be that way
everywhere.
