GM deal not finalized
Posted by Jon Erik Nordstrand, Goteborgs UB (more from Jon Erik Nordstrand, Goteborgs UB) on Wed, 12 Jan 2000 10:44:44
As you know, SAAB is owned 50/50 by GM and the Swedish company Investor. Investor is a large player in Swedish capital market with dominating or important interests in many companies, among them ABB (ASEA), Ericsson, Astra-Zeneca, Electrolux, SKF, SAAB Aircraft, SEB-bank and also Volvo trucks.
According to Investor, GM has not bought the remaining part of SAAB. The GM announcement is just a part of the negotiating battle between GM and Investor, the financial terms for the GM option to purchase all of SAAB are not completely clear.
GM is reported to have made their press release about the purchase without having consulted with Investor.
