I realize that just as Mike believes in DIC doom & gloomers, others believe in a conspiracy by CR against SAAB's. Well, until someone has better numbers, per their latest reliablity ratings....
I'm making some assumptions, how valid, I don't know.
I'm assuming that "Ignition" problems were DIC's. They could be something else, can't think of too many other possiblities. Actually some survey respondents may have included DIC failures in the "Electrical" category, which is several times worse reliability than Ignition, but those could be as simple as SID's.
I'm also assuming that DIC failures don't repeat. I know this is false for some on this board, but they have to be a small minority.
With these assumptions....
When your 9-5 is 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 years old (i.e., 2002 models for the spring 2004 (the latest) survey), you have a 2~5% chance of ignition problems.
When 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 old, 7~14.3% chance (the 2~5% chance when 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 years old, plus the 5~9.3% chance when 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 years old).
By the time the car is 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 years old, between 17 and 35% will experience DIC failure.
