...tried to pass off the noise made by a faulty clutch bearing as coming from binding rear brake pads, even though I demonstrated the clutch noise with the handbrake on and the car stationery (the bearing chattered just as the clutch was beginning to engage). Ultimately they removed the clutch bearing and guess what - the bearing was indeed a faulty part.
...damaged my paintwork on my first visit and, when I mentioned it, told me to go buy a touch up stick from the spare parts counter. Never had so much as a 'sorry' from them.
...carelessly gouged my rear bumper with a screwdriver or similar when removing a faulty reversing sensor.
...told me I should live with a screeching power steering pump because "all 9-5s do it". They eventually replaced it when pressured to do so and the screeching is no more.
... told me I should live with a whining A/C motor because, yep: "all 9-5s do it". Again they replaced it when pressured to do so and the whining is no more.
...tried twice to repair a door speaker vibration, failed, suggested a faulty speaker, but will not replace the same.
... lied blatantly, and now fails to return my calls in spite of several weeks of my trying to contact a service representative there.
But: I'm hanging on to the last micron of goodwill this dealer is prepared to offer in attempting to resolve my latest problem (though I had to offer them Coolknight's advice to get them to admit there was still another route to take in investigating the cause). Thus I will refrain from muddying their name on this occasion. However, if they don't adopt a more civilised approach to their customers I will not only publish their details, I have also drafted a letter already to Saab detailing my ownership experiences from new which I will copy to the dealer and post here for all to see. By then, I will have either found a more competent dealer or, regrettably, even changed the car. The latter would be very sad, but the heartache this dealer has caused me and my family over the past year has become unbearable, not to mention the months' worth of hours I've spent trailing back and forth attmepting to convince them of problems, all of which they ultimately acknowledged. So I'll have nothing to lose by telling it the way it is. Watch this space.
Regards,
Harley
