Clunk when manouvering with full lock...

Every morning I reverse my car down the gentle incline of my driveway, and when I reach the roadside I turn the wheels to a hard lock and do a 90 degree swing backwards out onto the road.
At about two-thirds lock, there's a loud clunk from somewhere up front which echoes immediately with a short 'twang'. (That's the only way I can describe it!) This happens without exception.
My dealer's had it in but can't find anything wrong. Odd thing is, I had a 9.3 loaner for the day and that did the same - both when the technician reversed it out of their parking bay for me, and every time I reversed it out of a parking space during the day. Whe I mentioned this to the dealer, all they could suggest is that it must be an 'optional extra accessory' that you get with all Saabs! Well, it's an option I'd rather not have.
My question: is there something wrong here, or is this a characteristic of the Saab front wheel drive setup that I'll have to learn to live with?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
