I have the phone cradle as shown in today's on-line catalog. But the mount I have is no longer shown -- it has two flat pieces, one that pushes into the seam between the top of the center air vent, and the other between the seam where the top of the radio and trim meet. After sending my first post, I realized that I could have positioned my cradle a bit higher on the mount, potentially eliminating the blockage of the SID display (although not the vent)-- but I'm not sure.
Snaab -- as far as the position of your mount -- how is the placement when you need to dial the phone? That was also one of my reasons for not getting that one -- I wanted one that was as close to my hand as well as my eye level with the road. I realize I can reach the place where yours is, it just seems so low and to the right that it could lead to even more time not paying attention to the road.
As for the mount install -- I thought it was a permanent type of install --are you saying that I could remove that one without anyone ever knowing it was there?
Was the cradle not fitting your phone a size issue -- the phone being too small to be firmly gripped? My hands-free piece needs to plug into the side of the phone, so I have to keep it higher than the the bottom support, which also contributes to its loose fit. It seems as if this cradle were made for an older generation cell phone -- which explains your need (and probably mine as well) to get a different cradle altogether.
Here in New York a new 'no talking while driving' law is going into effect (Nov), so hands-free is essential. I need to find my ultimate solution soon! I would imagine many other Saab NY'ers that don't want the integrated phone are in the same boat as I.
