I am actually one of those rare few who actually use Onstar voice activated calling if I am driving and need to make a call and I encourage others who know I am in the car to call on the Onstar # so I can likewise answer handsfree. The Ericsson I use primarily as my PDA and for a cell phone to "take with me" as obviously you can't do with the Onstar once you leave the car. All of the above is a long winded way of saying that the position of the phone for dialing is not a big concern of mine. If I must dial it while in the car, I usually pop it out of the holder (3 seconds tops) and push the voice dial button and say the name I want it to dial. I had an absolutely perfect setup in my '99 9-3 (prior to Onstar)-everything was flush mounted with no visible wires or cables and of course operated perfectly through the radio. But that was also a Nokia and I spent about $1000 on the installation. Onstar, Triads, etc., just make it too difficult in my opinion and with the new combo PDA/Cell phone, I am not sure I want to go to the trouble. I also always get a new car at least every three years and I always have to start over with phones, etc. (changes in technology, etc.) so I am not sure it is worth the expense. I know this will make many people's blood boil, but I am quite happy with the personal calling aspect of ONstar.
