Rickster---don't give up on Saabs! SaabUSA may be useless, but I've not had anything but the best treatment from the dealers, both my own in Seattle and the one in SLC who replaced the DIC on warranty, even knowing they would never see me again. The car was towed in after hours on a Friday night. They gave me a loaner for the weekend, which I kept until Tuesday because I was up in the mountains and didn't want to come back to town until then. Three days later the battery went dead (fried in the DIC failure?) and they replaced that for free too. My own dealer replaced the catalytic converter on warranty, and went to bat for me with Saab to get some help on the turbo, which they described as "premature failure". Since I am the original owner of this car, I got some kind of courtesy break. That $500 is the first money I've actually put into this car in the 5 years I've owned it, other than one post-lease service at 30K, and the intermediate oil changes. This is my fourth Saab ('72. '78, and '79) and I NEVER took the others to a dealer for service. Now I do, and I'm glad. So at least until now, the GM connection has not been so bad.
