The heater heats the antifreeze loop so the engine and cabin are both warm when you start the car. The heater is activated by both a timer circuit programmed into the SID and the outdoor temperature sensor to turn on only on cold mornings before you plan to start your car.
From my WIS and EPC there is a WHOLE BUNCH of stuff that needs to be installed as part of this option. Since there are a lot of EU market and US/CA market identifiers assigned to different components within our cars, it may not be possible to install this option without replacing other software packages.
