First, the 9-5 now has stability control, which much more closely evens out the safety in snow and adverse conditions. I would would rather have
FWD and stability control for snowy travel than quattro with no stability control though (Audi's have now added stability control)

MOST important, the 9-5 is far safer than the A6. Check out the euro NCAP
crash results and insurance ratings. In fact, the A6 is now Audi's least
crashworthy car, compared to the new A4 (and A8). The 9-5 is perhaps now
the world's most crashworthy car with enhancements above even the safe 2001 model.
