The two motors are very different. The V6 is a very smooth, powerful motor that will give you a long service IF taken care of.
8 grand, if the car is in top shape, AND you have proof of the timing belt, tensioners and pulleys being done at or near the 60k interval, then it's not too bad for a 2003, but you might try to get that a bit lower.
If the belt hasn't been done (or there is no proof of it being done):
Having the belt, tensioner & pulleys done can cost $1,500 or more.
Having the motor rebuilt after the belt breaks will set you back over $5,000.
