There's always the line of thought that such and such isn't a Saab. That logic doesn't work very well with Saab as many great Saabs had engines from other manufacturers. When GM bought a stake in Saab in 1990 the "purists" as I call them said the NG900 wasn't a Saab. The same was said about the 9-5 when it came out, not a Saab, it just really doesn't really make sense when referring to Saab.
As an analogy it's a form of automotive prejudice sorta', and the race of Saabs so to speak is clouded with mixed breeding all along.
Saab takes everybody's stuff and makes it their own.
The 4 cylinder Saab engine ain't a Saab engine either, but a derivative of a design purchased from Ricardo Engineering of England in the late 60's.
