Sooo, being almost 90 and humid in CT lately I've been using the A/C a little bit. It's leaving a lot to be desired. I have to crank it down to LO and full blast fan and it takes about five minutes to get the car comfortable. Last year it worked GREAT (booger icicles). So figured maybe I needed a recharge. I got a small can of r134a. I hooked up my gauge to the low pressure port and it WAS in the "fill" zone. So I added the can and then the compressor started cycling on and off. I reattached the gauge and saw that the gauge was reaching about 35 psi before the compressor shut off and the pressure dropped. Then the compressor would cycle back on, get to 35 psi, and drop again. Meanwhile, the cabin was even warmer than before. I let out enough refrigerant that the compressor stayed on continuously, but it's still not cooling the cabin so great.
I replaced the cabin filter last year, and I'll probably do it again this year after pollen season is finished. And the ACC isn't showing any fault codes. Any suggestions before I bring it somewhere? The A/C system is one of those not-so-DIY-friendly parts of the car. Thanks!
