With its variable displacement compressor, you can't recharge by pressure. The variable displacement compressor works to keep the pressures in a set range independent of all other variables, which makes system load proportional to cooling demand. The recharge drill is to suck out the system and introduce the specified full charge by weight.
Based on the behavior, I will guess that you overcharged the system to the point of triggering a safety cut-off. Having bled off enough refrigerant that it no longer hits the cut-off, it still apparently has too much charge to operate correctly. I would try bleeding a little at a time until it seems to be working correctly, and if that doesn't seem to happen, take it to have the charge professionally set. If it still doesn't work, then something broke.
