6 cylinder motor if the timing belt is neglected, and what happens if the 4 cylinder timing chain is neglected. There arnt lots of gear heads out there where car maintenance is number 1 on their list of things to purchase on Friday when they receive their pay check. I`d guarantee 75 to 80% of people buying a Saab 6 cylinder no nothing about Saabs and all they see if 6 is bigger than 4. Just recently was talking to a hotel clerk that had just purchased the 6 cylinder and they had no clue about the timing belt and what happens if its neglected.
I consider myself a slight gear head and I wouldn't ever clime into a 6 just because the rule of thumb is 60,000 intervals for the belt, However nothing is stopping the belt from snapping at 50,000.
On top of that had a long conversation with a Saab tec at a GM dealer as they were winding down operations he was saying the radiator bottle for the 6 cylinder motors are mounted right over the turbo unit and the heat from the turbo cracks the reservoir bottle. I asked how long dose it take for the heat to do this. He said cars anywhere from 10,000 miles and up would come back to the dealer and he would have to replace the bottle being the cars still under warranty.
Why even get a 6 there's no point except to flip a coin day by day betting if the timing belt will break. This single issue about the belt destroys any props I would have for the motor, and why is that.. because the chaos that happens after it breaks.
