I had a 2001 base wagon from 55k kms to 240k kms. Pretty much every common failure mentioned on this board happened to that car, and I maintained it beyond the book. PCV6 plus good oil at short intervals with no short trips and I still had to clean coffee grounds from the pickup twice. Fuel pump died (wife stranded), turbo failed (wife stranded), replaced that, headgasket went, replaced that, timing chain was done at the same time. Alternator died PITA. Needed a DIC. Needed a CPS. Needed a neutral safety switch. Water pump leaked, replaced. Radiator leaked, replaced. Rear shocks a couple times, rear springs once, sway bar links about three times. Was getting ready to do the leaky brake booster and squeaky heater motor when the car was taken out by a deer. It was on the borderline of repairable but I was sick of fixing it and asked them to total it.

Also, the car had a magnetic rear bumper and was rear-ended three times.

That's what I can remember without looking through my (very thick) stack of repair records.

I can say the transmission was faultless. The car was always comfortable and fun to drive and we missed it when it was gone. The replacement (Volvo XC70) while much less trouble is no where near as good a car - less roomy, poorer ride, not the same performance, not as good gas mileage.
