Need help with Rear Light Failure message Posted by scott47 [Email] (#119) [Profile/Gallery] (more from scott47) on Fri, 15 Dec 2017 20:17:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have tried everything I have been able to find to fix the "Rear Light Failure" message in my 2005 9-5. It has been showing for the past few months.
Here's what I have tried:
I checked the bulbs and they all worked but I still see that message. In my search, I am looking at the turn signal and parking lights, the brake lights, the reverse lights, the rear fog lights, the license plate lights and the high mount center brake light.
I have tried replacing all of the lights with brand new, same brand bulbs and that didn't help.
I've measured the resistance of the new bulbs and they were all pretty close or exactly the same.
I checked and cleaned all of the contacts in the bulb sockets and that didn't help.
I checked to be sure there wasn't a break in the wires in the rubber wire loom between the car and the trunk lid. There aren't any breaks or wires that looked bad.
I measured the resistance in wiring for the turn signal, tail lights, and rear brake light sockets. This is the wiring that goes from the light socket to the TWICE (or wherever it goes). They were all about the same except the left turn signal was 2 ohms resistance and the right turn signal was 2.5 ohms.
I can't figure this one out. The front side turn signals look fine but I haven't replaced them. Does anyone know if they are checked in the rear light failure message? How about the difference in the resistance of the turn signal wires?
At this point, I don't know what else to look at. Any help, ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time!!
Scott
