Well, if I rememeber correctly, Saab didn't have many cars over here for the 9-3 launch. So that was a bit of a setback.
Here in NJ, we get tons of Saab marketing - commercials, but 9-3 and 9-5, and print in local papers. Maybe they are focusing on big markets, wehre they have a following, to increase the brand? To push into a relatively unknown market is difficult, especially since many folks only remember Saab for high maintenance.
Speaking of marketing, whoever developed "Made in Trollhatten", a book we received as a gift from Saab, should be doing the marketing. People come over and read it, and understand what the company is about. And why its cars are built the way they are. Honestly, besides the fact the car is great ('02 9-5), this book was marketed correctly: our next car, to go with the 9-5, will be a 9-3SS cabrio.
I wouldn't be terribly concerned about lease promos, either. BMW (again, arund here) runs lease promos all of the time - currently, for 3500 down, 399/mo you are in a 325iX Wagon. Of course, the wagon is being dropped next year.....
Aslo, GM is still a huge screw up as a corporation. Think Saturn: Toyota launched Lexus, and GM launched Saturn, the same year. They both cost each company within 10's of million of each other. Who made the better investment? Toyota made people go "WOW", Saturn made people ask why an airbag or ABS weren't standard. Imagine what Gm;'s products could be like now, if they money spent on Saturn went to creating genuinely good cars for Chev/Olds/Buick etc. Bob Lutz, as a true car guy, should realize the value of Sab, and keep it.
Sorry for the all-over-the-place rant.
