The V6 is built in England by Vauxhall to Saab specifcations, while the I4 is built in Sweden by Saab. Variations of this engine appear in Opels, Vauxhalls, Saturns and Cadllacs. The English plant is the only factory in the world building this engine, and Saab is the only division fielding it with a turbo. There is apparently no connection between this engine and the much- hated NA V6 used in some NG900s and 9Ks. The I4 has been Saab's mainstay since the mid '70s, and has a well-earned reputation for both its excellent power output and longevity. Many consider it to be the only "Saab" engine. The similarities between today's 4 and the original 1.7L British-built engine start and end with the piston count. All that said, there's no reason to believe that the V6 won't be the Saab 4's equal in dependability (timing belt or no timing belt), it's just that we won't know for quite awhile.
The new automatic is made in Japan by Aisin-Warner, who have an excellent reputation. It, indeed, is very smooth and quiet in operation, and I think can be taken at face value as a significant step up from the ZF.
Dunno about SE wheels and tires--pray to the Saab gods that they ran out of MXV4s before they finished your car ;-)
Have fun waiting (and get some sleep, if you can).
