I've got a WRX wagon and a 9-3SE. Usually I'm in the 9-3 forum, but we're thinking of trading in for a 9-5, so I'm checking this forum out.
The Subaru AWD platform with the 227hp is flatout amazing. I put snows on this winter and wow does the car corner on rails on a crusty, plowed road. In loose snow you can break the rear loose but completely control it. With the amount of snow we've had this year in Maine...
I put Arctic Alpins on the Saab. Well, actually I bought them for a 900SE convertible 4 years ago, but there's still plenty of tread on them. The FWD with snows is fine for the crusty plowed road but really doesn't work too well in loose snow. That's where the AWD would help.
A Saab 9-1 or 9-2 based on the Impreza would be a really good thing, if Saab-executed. Think about it - the 9-5 is based on the same platform as an Opel/Vauxhall Vectra. I drove one of those a couple of weeks ago in the UK; it really wasn't a very refined, nice car. The 9-5 is lightyears ahead of it. The Impreza platform is SOLID and handles very well, but I definitely would want more creature comforts in my WRX.
A Saabaru would suit me just fine!
