Teaching my teenager how to drive a stick: Thoughts!

I took my son to the local church parking lot, looking for devine intervention, to start the process of clutch and gas coordination. We did circles for 40 minutes stopping at the top of the circle in a slightly down hill position in hopes of easing the stress on the clutch and the new driver. Now I feel like I am ready for the rodeo or at least a bar with a bucking bronco and cold beer.
What tricks have others used to teach todays impatient instant gratification youth? I am using my '92 9000S with 136K miles and the original clutch. I am hoping the clutch lasts!
