There was a response to a very similar question on the Performance BB last week. The answer given was that the standard Bosch BPV is good for 18PSI boost. Unless a person's vehicle is capable of generating more boost than that (meaning the engine is chipped or ECU replaced) a new BPV with higher boost capacity, such as Hyperboost, won't make a difference.
I know that a number of posters indicate noticeable performance gain after installing the new BPV. The Bosch units also have a reputation for developing small tears in their diaphragms that limit their bost capacity.
A logical reconcilliation of all this info, assuming it is all true, is:
1) If you have a torn diaphragm in your existing BPV you will notice a performance increase by replacing it with a new unit, but both the Hyperboost and an OEM replacement will yield the same gain.
2) If your ECU has been upgraded to one that will command the turbo to produce in excess of the basic 18PSI boost, you will experience a gain by going with a Hyperboost or similar.
3) If your current BPV is operating properly and your car still has the stock ECU, you will notice no benefit.
I am no expert in this matter but have been curious about the potential performance gains from a different BPV for a year or better. Like you I am also hesitant to spend over $100 for something that may not perform on my car.
