A faster responding BPV won't do much about turbo lag when you are in gear and just punch it. The main benefit comes when you shift gears, because when you release the throttle to up shift, the throttle plate closes and it creates a pressure spike heading back towards the turbo. If the BPV isn't fast enough to release the pressure before the pressure spike hits the turbo, it will stall the turbine wheel. That means when you get on the gas again the turbo has to spool all the way up again, instead of just having to spool up a bit. This causes a noticable lag, which improved and faster responding BPV's reduce.
This is the only reason to buy a better BPV if you're running stock boost pressures. If you're running increased boost, like I am, you'll also get the benefit of less air leakage during max boost.
Also many people confuse the low power at low RPM with lag. It's not lag, it's just an inherent property of a 4 cylinder turbo engine. Before boost comes on, there just is very little power, so the engine feels very sluggish below 2000-2500 RPM. The solution is to adapt your driving habits so you stay above 2000 RPM at all times.
