That was my whole point, that GPS IS highly accurate, and with regard to velocity, even in the old days when the horizontal position data might not have been as accurate as it is today, the velocity component still was very accurate, so it has always been very safe to assume that a speed readout on a GPS will be within 1 MPH. Today, the consumer available receivers should be good to within less than 10 feet for position readouts,more than enough to enable you to make a turn in your car.
