Your '00 Aero did have a softer suspension than your '03 does. It also had smaller anti-roll bars.
I don't know if you were braking in a straight line or not, but if you had the front tires turned at all, it's simple. The car fishtailed b/c of the laws of physics. The weight distribution changed dramatically (from 60/40 to say 90/10 for example) so the rear-end got really light. If you were going in a straight line when you were braking, it's probably b/c of what I mentioned above, and also that there was some sand/dirt on the road. The car shouldn't become unstable if all 4 tires are on the same type of pavement. Hope this helps.
