So what I see here is that we all agree these cars can "handle it" but we all agree to follow the manufacturers suggestions for break-in in the owners manual.

Back to the ORIGINAL CONTEXT of the first posting:

The original point was that this person had a 2003 car with undisclosed mileage that fishtailed under hard braking at 130 mph...

To which I was trying to reply that (since miles were not posted) the car could have had 300 miles on it when this allegedly occurred--which meant the car was not fully broken-in.

And I say AGAIN (politely) I make the payments, so I feel I decide how and when I break-in the engine.

Many posts on these BB's from the NG/9-3/ and 9-5 boards describe better mileage after about 7,000 tp 7,500 miles.

SAAB engineer friends on mine at Milford say the same thing to me. Yes, SAAB employees drive 'em like hell from brand-new to show how they can take it. They also can go get another one and/or get it "warranteed".

I was part of the 9-5 launch and saw how they "broke-in" the cars for the press drives and subsequent dealer drives at Palm Springs---and it ain't like Steve G or Mike L profess.

It was more along the lines of gradual accelerations to 60/70 mph over and over again on the 50 cars I saw it performed on. After a few hundred miles, then the press got them. If SAAB does it this way---then so will I--except I'll do it to 5,000, and I'll never have to see dealership guys like Mike L. with a problem.

After the break-in 5,000-to 7,500 miles, the "drive it like you stole it" philosophy is how I drive.
