I totally agree with Ian and others here. The MXV4's are the real culprit! We have Yokohama AVS dB tires on both the 9-3 convt. and my 9-5. The difference in road noise is quite DRAMATIC! They also handle very well. Check out TireRack.com for more information and user reviews.
Additionally, the speakers in my leased '99 9-5 base system are pretty miserable, particularly the rear door speakers. I got a Bazooka "tube" subwoofer for more bass punch (which I can remove at the end of the lease). It's wired directly to the rear speakers outputs. It's a help, but I'll go for the HK system in my 2002 9-5 and I'll probably replace some of the speakers in it. It seems a shame that they put in a fairly decent sound system with such shoddy speakers!
