(I'm not a regular here, but happened to come across this conversation.)
I have found over the years that tires are the largest contributor to the overall noise level in a car. I probably went through 4 different sets of tires in my old VW GTI, and each one was dramatically different from its predecessor. (I use that car as an example, because it had almost no noise insulation, and the tires were very audible.)
The AVS dBs are substantially quieter than other high performance tires, and I believe you will find they'll make a noticeable difference for you. They're also reasonbly priced, so it's not an unreasonable investment for the noise reduction. Also make sure that the car has perfect four wheel alignment. If a car is misaligned then the tires are worn improperly, and develop uneven tread wear conditions (such as cupping), which exacerbate noise even further. (Happened on my mother's Integra a lot, which needed yearly alignments.)
If, even after all these considerations have been addressed, you find that you are still bothered by the interior noise level, there is something which will help. It's a sound dampening material known as Dynamat. It's a thick film which is self-adhesive and is applied to the inside surfaces of the body's metal panels. The film is then made taught by applying concentrated heat to it.
The first priority for Dynamat treatment would be the door interiors. Using it on the rear body panels can also help. This product is primarily sold as an accessory to improve car stereo sound quality, but it also dampens the transmission of outside sounds. http://www.dynamat.com
