Here, north of the border (yes, Virginia, there is a Canada) Saab cars are in their natural element - referring primarily to climate, road conditions, population density, and other factors.
The dealerships are definitely the weakest link in the total ownership experience - a few exceptions serve to confirm the rule - followed by steep depreciation, partly do the rather poor dealership attitude and competence. Saab cars are sold and "serviced" by Saturn-Saab-Isuzu dealers here, who do a reasonably good job with Saturn cars - but seem to have a real problem providing the kind of competent, professional service that a fine car like Saab deserves. My 9-5 sedan is a good car (I speak from experience having driven competing up-scale cars all over the world), but "my" dealership's sales and service has been the worst I ever experienced - anywhere (including the US).
Too bad really! But there is hope in the long run, if GM can ever get their act together and demand a higher level of professionalism from their Saab dealers. I doubt that I can hold my breath long enough, but let's not give up on such a fine car and keep our fingers crossed!
Three cheers - Peter
