I am no expert, but here's my guess.
When you start the car(after it sat overnight)
The brake fluid and anti-lock light should light up. The brake fluid light should go out within 20 sec. That means the system reached its operating pressure. The anti-lock light should go out soon after.
That means the system has completed its self-test. the system is constantly self-testing, and when it detects a fault, the anti-lock light lights up, and the system is disabled. Most likely you have a bad connection to a wheel sensor. That would explain why your light comes on intermitently. I would follow the wires from each wheel sensor and make sure they aren't grounded or kinked anywhere. Also disconnect and clean terminals to ABS brain. Most likely its something minor. My 89 9000CDT had the same problem, and I messed around with the wires and now the anti-lock light almost NEVER comes on. I think you should only be worried if the brake-fluid light comes on. That means you have a pump problem (mucho-dinero)
There was a Tech session in CT a couple months ago that went over brakes. The guy who gave it John Moss really know his stuff. I think you can buy a video of the session from The new jersey saab club for $20 or so. I forget the new jersey clubs website, but someone here must have it.
