I own and currently drive both, 92 900 S 5 sp non turbo with 190,000 miles for commuting, and a 97 9000 CS 5 sp for weekends. Both are well maintained and look like new.
C900 is easier to throw around, best for short drives and suburban commuting and it holds a ton of stuff with the seat down; and you don't see another one coming at you every day. Its different and since its got a good build quality, nice paint and great leather, it does not feel like an old car after 12 years. 28/24 mpg average
The 9000 is a low pressure turbo, faster, smoother and quieter, more passenger room due to its wider/longer body. More accessories. Not as much fun to throw around due to its bulk (5 speed is great but not as much fun as in the lighter 900), but a GREAT highway car. 26/23 mpg average. Still a solid, well built car.
If I were you, I'd bypass the 9000 and pick up a used 9-5 if you need a bigger car; more of the 9000 features and a better ride. Plus their prices are dropping quick as used cars, most 9000s have pretty high mileage and they are not cheap to maintain. If you want a hatch, get a later model 9-3.
