I just picked up a '93 9000 CS non turbo 5 speed. I have all or most of the original owner's service records. The car was maintained by SAAB and the cost of ownership for repairs is almost 15 grand! The heater core, the motor mounts, CDI Cassette, tire rod ends (several times) and 5 clutch master cylinders! The car has 175K miles on it. To compare, I have always been a Volvo person but likes SAABs (had 5 model 97's). To compare to my father's '93 Volvo with a few more miles - it has had no work but timing belts. The SAAB timing chain I keep wondering each day if it will make it to the next or for that matter, will the serp belt pulleys or tensionier last as well....
Granted the 9000 is more upscale and roomier than the Volvo, most notable the rear seat leg room.
Is it a ‘bad car’, no…the ride is wonderful and I find it nicer to drive with exception to the rubber shifter.
My 2 cents worth.
